Wax Poetics Issue No.38 explores the black cinema, with a not totally unexpected bent towards the blaxploitation genre...Curtis Mayfield is the prime subject of two different covers, augmented with a discussion of his epic soundtrack for "Superfly". Since they created both the score and soundtrack for the recently released film Black Dynamite, there is obviously some dialogue about that as well. The issue is rounded out with pieces on Spike Lee, and writer/hustler Robert Beck AKA Iceberg Slim..I can dig it...Available Now.
