Street Etiquette just did a nice piece on Corduroy for the Fall, which prompted me to talk about one of my favorite cold weather items, the Corduroy Jean. In this pic from Street Etiquette, they show exactly how you should rock your corduroy's...
1.) Look for a slimmer cut. You don't have to wear the "skinny" variety like my man in the picture, but get the slimmest profile you feel comfortable in. That's because the fabric has it's own bulk, and you don't want to add bulk because the pants are baggy.
2.) Pair them with "heavy" fabrics. Cords look better with heavier shirting fabrics like flannel, twill, or oxford, leave the fancy shirts for your fancy wool slacks or fancy blue jeans...and don't wear a cord top and bottom together....
3.) They look great with suede or nubuck shoes. Rock your cords with a nice suede or nubuck boot, because just like the shirt, these pants need a heavier, more substantial shoe to stand up to the heavyweight cord fabric...but if you don't own a suede of nubuck boot, then any casual shoe should do...
