The record industry's losses have become the Hip-Hop fan's gain, with many artists, both major and independent, opting to put out free albums for promotional purposes.
Some of the stuff is nothing more than artists rhyming over hit instrumentals, but there has also been some great original stuff coming out of the Mixtape circuit...Here's my 5 favorites so far this year...What are some of yours?

1.) Kid Cudi and DJ E-V -"Dat Kid from Cleveland" Cudi continued his conquest of the Rap world with this mixtape of remixes and original tracks. This is one of the first places that fans heard "Make Her Say," otherwise known as "Poke Her Face." Download Here.

2.) Drake-"So Far Gone" This is the Project that put the Toronto native on the map...when radio started playing "Best I Ever Had", the rest was history...Download Here.

3.) Wale & 9TH Wonder-"Back To The Feature" Acclaimed producer 9TH Wonder works his magic on this mixtape, paving the way for Wale to display his lyrical prowess...Download Here.

4.) Donny Goines-"The Breakfast Club"-You probably never heard of this dude from NYC, but he goes superhard on this free full-length album...his remake of Nina Simone's "See Line Woman" is brilliant! Download Here.

5.) Pac Div-"Church League Champions" This trio with the old-school flow, reminds me of the Beastie Boys but with even more skills...Their free album has all the underground Hip-Hop heads breaking their neck, now it's your turn...Download Here.

Honorable Mention: 50 Cent-"The War Angel LP" I know that this is a Top 5, but I couldn't leave this one out...With production from none other than Dr. Dre, and fif dropping some of the hottest rhymes since his early mixtapes, this free album is a must-have...Download Here.
